Upcoming Events in Arlington, TX: What to Do This Fall Near The Thornton Inn

Fall is shaping up to be a busy season in Arlington, and whether you're coming for football, live music, theatre, a weekend at UTA, or something a little more unexpected, there's plenty happening around town.

One of our favorite things about The Thornton Inn is our location. We're in the heart of Arlington near Downtown Arlington and UTA, with the city's major entertainment venues just a short drive away. That makes us a comfortable home base when you're coming into town for an event but would rather stay somewhere with a little more personality than a typical hotel.

Here are a few upcoming Arlington events we're looking forward to.

DALLAS COWBOYS FOOTBALL RETURNS TO ARLINGTON

Football season means AT&T Stadium comes alive again.

The Dallas Cowboys host the Washington Commanders on Sunday, September 20, with Rally Day activities at AT&T Stadium the day before. More Cowboys home games follow throughout the fall, so there will be plenty of weekends when Arlington turns decidedly silver and blue.

If you're traveling to Arlington for a Cowboys game, consider making a weekend of it rather than simply driving in and out for kickoff. Downtown Arlington has restaurants, live entertainment and plenty to explore before and after the game.

THE SAVANNAH BANANAS COME TO GLOBE LIFE FIELD

One of the most unusual sporting events of the fall arrives at Globe Life Field September 25–27, when the Savannah Bananas bring Banana Ball to Arlington.

If traditional baseball and a circus had a very energetic child, Banana Ball might be it. The games combine baseball with entertainment, music and plenty of surprises, and the Savannah Bananas have developed a huge following around the country.

For families or groups coming into Arlington for the weekend, this could be an especially fun excuse to turn the game into a mini getaway.

FREE FALL CONCERTS AT LEVITT PAVILION

You don't have to buy a stadium ticket to find great live music in Arlington.

Levitt Pavilion in Downtown Arlington has a full lineup of fall concerts, many of them free, and it's one of the easiest places to enjoy an evening out when you're staying at The Thornton Inn.

Upcoming performances include Jay Pérez on September 18, Blue Tongue on September 19, The Buffalo Ruckus on September 25, an ABBA tribute on September 26, and UTA Jazz on September 27.

The fall concert series continues into October with Texas country, rock, Tejano, tribute acts and special events.

Best of all for our guests, Levitt Pavilion is right in Downtown Arlington, making it easy to pair a concert with dinner at one of the area's local restaurants.

SEUSSICAL JR. AT THEATRE ARLINGTON

Families visiting Arlington have another great option this month.

Theatre Arlington presents Seussical JR. September 18–27, bringing Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and other Dr. Seuss characters to the stage in its annual all-youth musical.

Theatre Arlington is another Downtown Arlington treasure and a wonderful reminder that there's much more to our city than the big stadiums.

A show, dinner downtown and an overnight stay can make for a pretty terrific Arlington weekend.

UTA EVENTS BRING EVEN MORE TO DOWNTOWN ARLINGTON

Being just a couple of blocks from the University of Texas at Arlington means there's almost always something happening near The Thornton Inn.

September's UTA calendar includes campus events, arts and cultural programs, the UTA All Majors Job & Internship Fair on September 16, Arlington ISD College Night on September 17, and International Observe the Moon Night on September 19 at the UTA Observatory.

If you're coming to Arlington for a UTA event, campus visit, conference, family weekend, graduation or other university activity, The Thornton Inn offers a convenient alternative to the usual chain hotel experience.

AND OCTOBER IS ALREADY LOOKING BUSY

September is only the beginning.

AT&T Stadium welcomes Monster Jam on October 3, followed by another Cowboys home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 8.

Meanwhile, Levitt Pavilion continues its free fall concert series with performances and special events throughout October, including its Hispanic Heritage Celebration on October 3 and Do Good Fest Texas featuring Barenaked Ladies and Lisa Loeb on October 24.

So if an Arlington getaway has been lurking somewhere on your fall calendar, there are plenty of reasons to finally circle a weekend.

MAKE THE THORNTON INN YOUR ARLINGTON HOME BASE

The Thornton Inn is a historic boutique hotel near Downtown Arlington and the University of Texas at Arlington, offering five individually appointed guest rooms with private baths.

We're close enough to enjoy everything Arlington has to offer while giving you somewhere quieter and more personal to come home to at the end of the evening.

Come for the Cowboys. Come for a concert. Come for the theatre, UTA, Banana Ball, or simply a weekend exploring Arlington.

We'll give you a comfortable place to land.
